Tackle Your Tuesday: Taking It Back

Usually when I get home from work I turn on the TV and switch on the Food Network while I cook for my family. One of my favorite shows Chopped was on tonight, and who do I see?… Jackie Joyner-Kersee cooking in the all-star challenge!

When I was in elementary school I can remember doing a report on Jackie Joyner-Kersee. It was so exciting finding out so many things about her. I always knew about her (I mean come on I had been running track since the age of 4. I should know who she is.), but reading the stories about her childhood and how she came to her Olympic gold medals really inspired me. She surpassed so many obstacles including asthma to push towards her goals. Seeing her on television tonight reminded me of that little girl I used to be. She may never know it, but I am thankful for how her life has influenced me.

As I fast forward to today, she now has The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation. Her foundation helps people in her community in the areas of education, sports, life skills, and health and fitness. I just hope that one day I will be able to touch my community and even the world in the same way she did and is still doing.

So to “Tackle Your Tuesday” look to your past. Who inspired you to be better as a child and is still inspiring you today? If they can do it, we can do it. Go tackle you life while reflecting on the past.
