Wellness Wednesday: Taking Care of Your Temple

We are what we intake… Practice positive thoughts. Eat smart. Exercise right. Protect your temple.

What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have God, and ye are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19). Reflecting on this verse reminds me of a gospel song. It states that we are not natural beings having a spiritual experience, yet we are spiritual beings having a natural experience. This temple, this shell, in which we live in, is home to a very special gift. So I just have one question: How well are you taking care of your temple?

Have you been more negative as of lately? Are your meals usually prepared through a drive thru? Or has the button pressing on the remote become your favorite exercise? Many of us are guilty of just this. I know life gets busy, but we have to make the time to make the right choices. I am not saying I am perfect, but trying is always better than not trying. This life is a gift. Won’t you join me in trying to live a better one? Let’s take it on full speed ahead!

I hope this blesses someone today, and Happy Wellness Wednesday!

Tackle Your Tuesday: Tailor Made

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Today felt so long! I’m so glad it is the end of the day. I am using my motivation from yesterday to push me into today. It is time to let go of earlier today and get ready to be better to me. To let go in the time of day that is “tailored” just for me… my workout.

There are so many trends out there for exercise. I even wrote a post about it. I pretty much have an idea of what works for me. I love to run, do hip hop aerobics, and lift weights. Any combination of the three get my heart rate up and keep me moving. I start off with a warm up and let if flow right into my workout. After I’m done with cardio, I then go into weight lifting. This seems to be the routine that works for me. If you are training professionally or just to become healthier, it is a good idea to have a workout tailored to you. Some people know exactly what to do, and some need the help of a personal trainer.

So how do you “Tackle Your Tuesday?”… Get out there and find what works for you!

Motivational Monday: The Past

“Let the past be the past, and yesterday is just that… THE PAST. Let’s be better today”  -Me

Sometimes the past can come back to haunt us. Decisions that we made in the past, and times when we should have said yes instead of no can all add a major burden to our present lives. It is important for us to learn how to move on without forgetting how our past has made us into who we are today. My advice?… Learn to forgive yourself for those bad decisions made. Don’t ever forget the good times. Learn from your experiences, and always, always, always keep moving forward. Stay motivated.

Wellness Wednesday: When You Think You Can’t

Happy Wednesday Everyone! Today has proven to be a little bit of a struggle for me. I found myself trying to stay encouraged through the day. I was in a sort of somber mood. I had to keep reinforcing the things that I advise people to do on a daily basis. I had to stay encouraged.

Have you ever felt fatigue during a workout? Every felt like you might not make it through? Well I have a couple of tips that just might help you in your time of weakness during any level of exercise.

1. Breathing

Becoming frustrated is one of the worst things you can do. To finish a hard workout remember to just breathe. Whether you are running, walking, or weight lifting it can allow you to free your mind. It will keep your muscles relaxed to prevent injury.

2.Think Positive Thoughts

The power of positive thinking. If you think you can, you will. I always tell myself, “You can do this.” Whenever I get tired and feel like I am about to give up I repeat this. Like I say everything starts on the inside.

3. Stay Under Control

Normally when athletes get tired their biomechanics are usually the first thing that go out the window. It is important to keep your form. Not only will you help  stop unnecessary strains or pulls, but you will complete your workout quicker.

So when you think you can’t try breathing, thinking positive thoughts, and stay under control. Now go and finish that workout!

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday Everyone! While I was browsing the internet today I decided to actually look up the definition of motivation (since I am talking about it all the time…). Motivation is the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.

As April in quickly coming to an end, what can you look back on and use it for upcoming motivation? Did you lose a couple of needed pounds? Did you become stronger? Maybe you incorporated smarter eating habits into your diet. Whatever it was or is, try and use that motivation to keep going. Continue to act or behave in that particular way that will help you grow.

I hope everyone had a great Monday, and I hope you had a wonderful Easter too!

Fit Fridays: Exercising With Your Spouse

I am please to say that I met my husband in an “active” setting. We ran track and field together. We actually started out as rivals! My high school (Etiwanda) against his high school (Rancho Cucamonga). After high school we ran on the same team at Mt. Sac and the rest is history. I love how we can exercise together. I motivate him and he motivates me. Living an active lifestyle is just part of who we are. From my experience exercising with your spouse can bring a deeper connection in your relationship. You can see each others highs and lows, and who better to have as a workout partner than your significant other?

Remember the activities in which you do together don’t have to be complicated, and they don’t have to require a lot of money. You can go for a walk or a bike ride. Try hiking or playing a sport in a one-on-one setting. If you are like my husband and I, you will find yourself in a friendly competition and the attraction you have for one another will only enhance your relationship. If you and you spouse are not in sync right now, I dare you to try! Exercise with each other, and see what a difference it will make in your love life!

I hope this blesses a couple tonight, and I hope you all had a great Fit Friday.

Thoughtful Thursday: One Thing At A Time

Happy Thursday Everyone! This Thoughtful Thursday I just wanted to encourage you. Our lives can be so stressful and busy, but it is important just to do one thing at a time. I have to admit a couple of months ago I was a very stressed woman, and it started to translate into my physical health. I never want to feel that way again. I took a step back and re-evaluated some things. I cut back on some things and filtered some relationships in my life. Now I feel stronger, wiser, more organized, and less stressed. I am not perfect, but as I get older the experiences I am going through help me stand on who I am and where I want to be in the near future. I just thank God that He has brought me this far. I hope this blesses someone today.

Motivational Monday: In The Zone

Picture yourself at the starting line of a big race. You can feel the crisp of the morning air on your back, and the smell of green grass in your nostril. Just as the gun is going to sound you take your last nervous breath in an attempt to calm down and get ready to dive in, but how did you get here? Many of us have our ways of getting in the zone. Music, silence, a special warm-up, they all are used help athletes get ready for sporting events. Some have special socks, headbands, and even as far a special underwear. I can remember riding with my father to track meets listening to Fred Hammond and feeling inspired and motivated to run. Sport and fitness is much more than just being physical fit or ready, it is very much a mental battle field as well. We can be as physically prepared as the best athletes in the world, but what separates the best from the rest? It is there mental state of mind. Their focus, so with that said what do you do to get in the zone?
