Fitness Shout Outs

Here we go again. I want to give credit to those living the Well & Fit life. With that said three shout outs are in order.

Congrats to my Aunt Minga for getting out and moving at my cousin Bobby’s bootcamp. Keep it moving honey!

2nd shout out has to go to Lawrence for his constant promotion of not only health but track and field! It’s nice to see someone who loves the sport as much as I do! Keep motivating others to exercise!

Last but not least shout out to Chazz. For her involvement in fitness with her gospel fitness class.   God and fitness… can’t get any better!

Tackle Your Tuesday: Helping Your Family

Champions

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I hope everyone is having a blessed day. Now stop and think… are you really making a conscious effort to help your family live a healthier life? We can try and blame society and fast food restaurants for our down fall in health, but it really starts at home. As parents (even if you are not a parent) we can help improve our family’s eating and exercising habits. We must lead by example. I love the program called “Champions for Change” ran by the California Department of Public Health’s Network for a Healthy California. It encourages parents to make healthy changes for their families and communities. For more info go to http://www.cachampionsforchange.cdph.ca.gov.

THE CHANGE STARTS WITH US!

Motivational Monday: Be You!

image

Happy Monday everyone! Have you ever struggled with something because you were trying to be what everyone else thought you should be? Can you remember a time that you wanted to show your true self but couldn’t get past your fears?  Well then my advice would be just for you. Stop pretending and just be you. Your are the only you. Stop wasting time on the negative influences in your life. God has a perfect plan for all of us,  but we also have a choice. Choose joy, happiness, faith, love, and peace.

Be you. Be strong. Be fearless. For we were not given a spirit of fear. Just be the you seen through God’s eyes. I hope this helps someone today.

Motivational Monday : Picking Up

image

Happy Monday Everyone! I am back! I took a week off due to some health issues that I was having. Through it all my husband and I just kept praying and holding on to each other. I held on to my faith in the Lord and to my love. I feel so blessed to have a husband like him. When I felt my lowest and was in tears he looked at me and said, “Dominique, God is good.” These four words helped me to pick myself up and keep moving forward. You, me, we all have a purpose to fulfill on this earth, and I never want to take that for granted. This journey I’m on requires me to live a consistent healthy life. It is possible uncontrollable things will happen, but I will not let them stop me. With God, my husband, my girls, and the rest of my family and friends,  I will make it through.  Watch out world! Time to live Well & Fit.

Dealing with fitness setbacks

Even the most dedicated fitness enthusiast encounters a setback from time to time. Whether it’s injury, illness or anything else that’s keeping you from your regular workout, you can overcome the setback by keeping these tips in mind:

  • Be flexible. If injury or illness keeps you from doing your exercise of choice, don’t focus on what you can’t do—focus on what you can do. Depending on the situation, you may have other exercises you can pick up while you’re recuperating. For example, you probably couldn’t run with a minor back or knee injury, but swimming may actually be beneficial.

  • Keep your eye on the prize. Setbacks are temporary. Remember it’s just a matter of time before you’re back to your old routine. To make sure you don’t get out of the habit, try setting aside the time you would normally workout and using it for other healthy activities such as meditating.

  • Modify your goals. If you were shooting for a certain fitness goal, make the necessary adjustments and give yourself more time to meet that goal. If, when you’re able to return to your old routine, you push yourself too hard and try to meet your original goal you may become frustrated. Goals must be challenging but attainable, otherwise they can demotivate you.
