Wellness Wednesday : Building Mental Strength

Runners take your marks, get set… BANG! I can still remember the way it felt to be standing at the starting line waiting to get in my blocks. I knew I was ready physically,  but was I ready mentally? Building mental strength doesn’t just happen over night. It is like any other training. It takes practice. How do you build up your mental strength?  My tips are easy: pray, talk, visualize, and repeat. Prayer and self talk can be two of the most motivating factors in an athlete’s play book. It’s more than physical, it is tapping into your inner being. Then visualize, maybe even act it out with motion. Pump your arms or throw that ball. Begin to develop a better you, and have a slight edge over everyone else with you mental game. If you can believe it in the mental, you can achieve it in the physical. Never give up! Begin building you mental strength.
