Fit Friday: Lifting Weights For Beginners

image

Hello out there, and happy Fit Friday! Another work week has past, and I know you are all looking forward to the weekend. This weekend will probably be very emotional for me as I will be celebrating the life of my Aunt. Today we gathered together, and it was nice to have the comfort of family by my side. For a lot of my family it was the first time meeting my new little one in person, and I couldn’t help but overhear someone compliment me on my “baby weight loss”. It is funny because I don’t have any huge secrets to my shedding of pounds, but I do implement one of the best exercises in the book, weight training.

Weight training is probably one of the best ways to lose weight. If you are doing cardio like a mad man or woman, but not seeing the results you want, this can probably be the solution to your problem. Now women get over the myths that you will look “manly” when you lift. It is just as beneficial for women as it is for men. What I love about weight training is that it helps you to burn extra calories even when you are doing nothing. Lean muscle will give you the body you want with your clothes off! Lol! Here are a few tips if you are a beginner:

1. 3×10. I consider this the golden rule when starting out. 3 sets and 10 reps.
2. Choose the appropriate weight. Don’t over do this one. Choosing the best weight to start and continue will better results and prevent injury.
3. Technique. If you don’t know how ask a trainer or do your research. This is so crucial to weight lifting. Biomechanics is everything. Form(technique) equals fit(results).
4. 2 weeks. I believe a minimum of 2 weeks at the same weight should be implemented for a beginner. Work your way up slowly. You’re not trying out for the next Mr./Mrs. Olympia. Take your time.

So there you have it weight lifting for beginners. Now go burn!

Rest in paradise to my beautiful Aunt Queen. You will be missed dearly.

Fit Friday: It’s Never Too Late

walking

Well it’s Friday and I could not be happier! This week has presented itself with challenges that I never thought I would experience, but the good thing is it’s in the past. I am glad to be moving on. I call the title of this post Never Too Late because that is exactly how I felt today. I was approaching the end of my work day and one of my coworkers presented the idea taking a quick walk outside. I began to think of all the things I could have finished and being done before 5pm, but I put down my pen and went walking anyway. In that small time while walking, I was able to get back into a “fitness” state of mind. During our walk we stopped along the way and I led my coworkers in doing 3 sets of 30 quick step ups. It was great to be outside in this great weather and recharge my battery. You have to give energy to get energy, and that is exactly what I did. I went back to my desk feeling accomplished and I finished the day still completing everything I wanted to do. So to you I say it’s never too late. Get up and move! You will feel a lot better after.

Happy Fit Friday Everyone!

Fit Friday: Rain And A Little Cardio

fit friday

Happy Friday Everyone! Well California finally got its rain, and boy is it coming down. That is ok though. I still went and got my workout in. I love the Fridays that I am off. I get time to myself just to sit and relax. It is a great time to watch a movie, read, or work on my business. I’m kind of glad it rained today. How do you spend your rainy days, and what do you do in regards to exercise when you are more than likely will stay inside?

Fit Friday: At Your Desk

Happy FIt Friday Everyone! We always seem to have the excuse of “not enough time” to exercise. Well I’m here to tell you that you can’t use that excuse anymore. You can workout while sitting right at your work station. Here are 3 exercises to try:

  1. Sit up with you back straight and the ball of your feet on the ground. Then go into a football quick run in your chair. Move your feet up and down as fast as you can for 30 seconds then relax. Repeat for three sets. Now that’s “sit down” cardio!
  2. Put you arms above your head and pump one arm in the air vertically (up and down) in a fast pace. Do 20 raises on each arm then relax. Repeat for three sets. Work those shoulders!
  3. Sit up with you back straight and contract you ab muscles. Move you abdomen side to side, making sure to focus on only moving you mid section. Hey abs in chair!

So no more excuses! Get to it! I hope this helps you to stay fit this Fit Friday!

Fit Friday

Today was a roller coaster for me. At first it started off very peaceful and towards the end I started to become stressed. You know when you have an agenda for the day, but it doesn’t quite go as planned? Well that was me today. Through all of it, I still found time to exercise. I popped in my 10 Minute Solution: Hip Hop Cardio DVD and go my sweat on. The DVD consist of 5 workout segments that are each 10 minutes long. I enjoy doing all of them, but I only did three today.

It is no mystery that exercise is a way to release stress. Whether you schedule it at the beginning or the end of your day, it will always make you feel better. I know this is kind of a late post, but if you haven’t worked out today, then there is no better time than the present. You can do it. I am here on the side lines cheering for you! Get up and get fit on this “Fit Friday”!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Fit Friday: Part Two

Now that we are at the end of the day. I want to congratulate you for all the physical activity you did today! How many points did you tally up, and what did these activities consist of? My grand total was 7 physical activity points. I walked around my office 3 times. Then I did some aerobic exercises while waiting at the printer. I dance while riding home in the car. Followed by going up my stairs with my daughter, and I cooked some of my delicious spaghetti. I hope you had as much fun as I did counting our physical activity! Happy Fit Friday!
